Assessment and IE

Mission

The mission of the Office of Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness is to promulgate beneficial assessment practices across VCU's programs (academic, educational support, administrative, student affairs, research, and community engagement).  This office aligns assessment with other quality improvement initiatives, including VCU's strategic plan, Quest for Distinction; program review; annual reporting and unit review; institutional effectiveness; and all requirements of the State Council of Higher Education (SCHEV), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and other external accrediting agencies.

 

Purpose of Assessment

The primary purpose of assessment is the continuous improvement of student and program performance by providing faculty, administrators, and staff with methodologically sound processes for identifying desired objectives, developing plans and processes by which objectives can be achieved, measures of effectiveness, and protocols for reporting on findings and action plans.
